Our firm has been retained to seek a partner, investor, or buyer for Web Printing Controls Co., Inc. (“WPC” or the “Company”), a world leader in designing, developing, and manufacturing real-time closed loop automation equipment. While their primary customer base is the web offset printing industry, the applications for other industries are almost limitless. WPC has highly specialized engineering expertise with tremendous value in any industry using vision, image recognition, sorting and other sensors, including; factory automation, food processing, or conveyor/sorting systems.
Likewise, much of the manufacturing capacity is generic and usable for many applications.
With the largest product line of waste saving automation solutions of any vendor in the print industry, WPC has been helping customers around the world improve productivity through integrated products that deliver the highest quality print and greatest waste reduction possible. Founded in 1972, the Company’s award winning technologies represent the leading edge in bridging the gap between science and the craft of printing. In addition to a full line of products focused on color control, register, position, finishing and other aspects of producing quality commercial print, WPC provides technical services and support capabilities to customers around the globe.
WPC’s executive offices, R&D, and engineering are located in the Chicago suburb of Lake Barrington, IL, while a 150,000 sq. ft. state-of-the art manufacturing facility is in Fairfield, IL. WPC’s manufacturing capabilities include a full machining area equipped with 15 CNC machines which include turning, grinding, water jet, and sheet metal capabilities. The site’s electrical/electronics department provides panel building and wiring, three clean rooms, PCB assembly, and precision optics assembly. The Company owns ample space to support future growth opportunities.
WPC sells its products both to printing press manufacturers, who incorporate the Company’s products into their own printing press systems for final sale to printers and publishers, and directly to printers and publishers to upgrade the quality and capability of their existing and new printing presses. WPC’s revenues are primarily derived from three segments including equipment sales, service and support, and after market spare parts. With over 150+ active accounts, WPC enjoys a repeat business rate of more than 95% annually. In addition, there are over 1,500 previous customers the Company can perform maintenance and retrofits for in the coming years. Over 40 years of drawings, parts, and expertise ensure that WPC will get that business.
WPC enjoys a long-standing reputation for its focus on providing high-quality products and services at competitive prices. Given sufficient resources, WPC has opportunities to grow sales and profits by expanding its product offerings, increasing production capacity, and pursuing new customers in existing and new geographic areas. This is an excellent opportunity to capture a quality customer base, a seasoned management team, tremendous capacity (revenue has been as high as $27 million), and a well-respected name. Interested parties could acquire the trade names, intellectual property and engineering portion of the business, with or without the manufacturing capacity, or vice versa.
